Worshiping Together Sunday March 29, 2020

This week's video has been uploaded to Youtube.  Church starts on Sunday any time after 9 AM.  You can come to church in your pj's if you like.  Don't tell anyone but in the video I am wearing blue jeans; that's our little secret. This week's video has some extras included.  I have been playing with video creating software and have completed a first attempt.  Next week we hope to add a children's story.  Thank you for your patience Pine Grove and Friends.  In His Service, Pastor Dan

Thanks Lawrence Family for encouraging us. He reigns! Amen!

How Have I Been Blest?

In so many ways.  Pine Grove, your messages and comments through social media are an encouragement.  Your acts of kindness to others is inspiring.  I went to some stores today to see if the employees had hand sanitizer for themselves.  Those that did, asked me if I wanted to use theirs. What generosity!! There are trades people working in small business that don't have access to hand sanitizer.  I am happy to share with them.  The Bishop phoned today to check in on us.  I was pleased to report that Pine Grove is moving along just fine.  Keep up the good works!  Share some stories here or on facebook, about the blessings of this season.

Thank you everyone who signed up for Hugs from a Distance.  A full compliment of volunteers has been received and the project is now fully operational.  Thank You Pine Grove.  If you attend Pine Grove Church and you live alone someone will be hugging you from a distance.  I will try to hug you ask often as I can with phone calls and emails.

A video by Dr. Brian Hart a physician in Gananoque has been uploaded to the church website.  You will find it in the YOUR HEALTH tab on www.pgcc.ca.

Church Today at Pine Grove

Record Number Turn Out for Sunday Service

Ann and I were at the church building this morning at 10:30 AM.  The total attendance was 2.  The offering was zero (we tithe every other week).  There were no children, no babies, some music, a lot of praying and the quiet was deafening except for the church bell that rang 12 times.. However, the YouTube message had 117 views (5 of those were probably me testing it).  Making an assumption that half of the views were watched by more than one person and some people watched it individually instead of together, the estimated attendance this morning was 150 people.  It is hard to say, but lets go with that.

I have included a picture of the altar stairs with three sheets of paper.  On the papers are the names of all the church family (and a few more).  Know that you have been brought before the altar of God today.

Blessings, Pastor Dan

Worshiping Together This Sunday

IF GOD BE FOR US WHO CAN BE AGAINST US?

Yes, there will be "church" on Sunday - from the comfort of your own home.  I have made my first attempt at producing a YouTube video message and there will be a guest worship leader making her debut, you won't want to miss her! On the church homepage (www.pgcc.ca) you will see a tab called SUNDAY WORSHIP.  There you will find links for each Sunday during the closure.  The videos will be available beginning at 9 am on Sunday Mornings.  This week's message is entitled "1 Covid Chronicles - Lots of Hope!"  Text: Romans 12:9-13.

Later on in the week we will be holding a Live Zoom Prayer Gathering Online.  Date and time to be announced.

See you tomorrow!

A couple of weeks ago Pastor Dan spoke about getting out of the boat,(our comfort zone really) Its not easy I know from experience Thank you Pastor Dan for doing just that today. Your love for your congregation is expressed so well by the words you do and say. Thank you for encouraging us, praying for us and loving us like you do. If we step out of our boats Jesus will take our hand and help us. It is my prayer that we pray to our heavenly Father and ask Him what he wants us to do to serve Him during these difficult times. "The Only Bible Some People Will Ever Need is Your Life in Action"Love you all..Kathryn๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ™Thank you Everleigh for your song. You are such a blessing.

Thank you so very much pastor Dan for stepping out of your comfort zone, for having the courage to try new things and for sharing your message of hope with us today! Everly, your singing was so beautiful! Thank you so very much for sharing your message in song that Jesus Loves Me!The thoughts and questions that came up for me from your message pastor Dan were the following:The battle belongs to the Lord! How do I live out my faith and have the zeal in doing so? How can I demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit while being at home? I pray that I can be mindful of what I can do to encourage and help out whether it is in a big or in a small way.I pray that I can be kind, generous and faithful through all of this. I pray that I can share God's love with people, especially those who have lost hope and who may be having negative emotions.I pray that I can continue to give God all of the glory and that He use me to be his vessel in the storm.

HUGS FROM A DISTANCE PROJECT

Isolating isn't uncommon in the senior population.  Yes, many who are isolating now did have the freedom to come, go and socialize but they are still often forgotten and lonely living in forced isolation.  I am a hugging pastor for those who want hugs.  Seniors and particularly those who live alone crave healthy touch and they are the majority on a Sunday morning with their arms reaching out for that Pastor-Hug.  Those who live alone and are practicing social distancing through isolation are at low risk for contracting the covid-19 virus but they are at higher risk of experiencing emotional trauma due to lack of social interaction.  Let's be pro-active at preventing an epidemic of mental health issues for those who are isolating alone.  Under 60's crowd at Pine Grove, this is a chance for you to step-up-to-the-plate.  I have created a program I am calling -- "Hugs from a Distance".  I challenge children, youth and young adults to adopt someone who is isolating and care for them during this pandemic.

How will you do this?  Once you signup on our website www.pgcc.ca/hugs, you will be assigned someone who is alone and isolating.  It will be your responsibility to connect with them via letters, phone calls, emails or facetime depending on their level of technical confidence and your preferences.  You will be provided all the information that you need.  Children can draw pictures, colour pictures or write notes.  You can be as creative as you wish without going inside their homes.  Let's not let one vulnerable isolated senior be forgotten.

This is the perfect time for all of us to be "the church" and to show our love to others. This will be so important, especially now that people will not have the chance to come into our physical building. Let's be THE CHURCH and show the love of Jesus Christ through us!

We are so blessed at this time to know God. So many do not. It is difficult for us. I can only imagine the fear and anxiety for those without faith. Prayerfully, they will find their way to their Saviour in the days ahead and come to know our Awesome God who loves them.

Yesterday Pastor Dan introduced Hug from a Distance. We immediately asked for 3 members to connect with. This morning Matt and I introduced the Hug from a Distance to the kids and they were so excited. After listening to Alanna's conversation with her member it made me realize what an amazing program this is. The relationships that can come from this bad situation could be amazing for the young and old of our church. The lessons it will teach our children is amazing.I just wanted to share how excited our kids were and what a great thing hug from a distance could be. (we have 3 letters ready for the mail )

Pastor Dan

This is the first time that I have blogged.  I'm not certain of the etiquette but as we say often at Pine Grove - "no rules". I was in the grocery store on my way home from the church.  By habit, I took a cart and then realized that I only needed milk.  I put the cart back and took a basket to which a person standing nearby said, "You won't even need that.  There is nothing left". I said, "I see lots of food". I looked around the grocery store and saw an abundant supply of food.  Ok, some of the shelves were empty.  There was not much fresh meat but there were lots of hotdogs and ham.  I needed ketchup but there was no Heinz so I bought the store brand.  There was no 1% milk; I bought 2%.  I have everything I need and more.

Selfishness and greed can be the order of the day.  Let's not make it the order of our day. Let's be thankful for everything that we receive or don't receive.  Let's shine into the dark places.  I get the feeling that this pandemic may bring out the worst in many whose goal is to survive in comfort.  My goal is to survive.  It is a time for saying "thank you" to places like stores that are remaining open and to their employees who are putting themselves at risk.  Thank everyone you can to promote and encourage generosity.  Pine Grove, let your light shine before all people that they will see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven (Matthew 5:16)

As some of you may know, I just returned from Cuba- but not "resort" Cuba... real Cuba. I stayed in a lovely rental casa, with a family that has come to be very dear to me. They, having access to tourist money are relatively well off. Many others of my friends are not as well off.I attended the local church, and passed many hours at the homes of my friends. I shopped locally, and to say our shelves here are "bare" is a pale statement in comparison to Cuba right now. No matter how much money you have there, you cannot buy toilet paper, toothpaste or even chicken. Other years have not been this bad, but some chaotic convergence of events has caused extreme shortages there this year. Canned goods such as sardines or tuna are on the shelves, but a cost of $2 there when the average monthly income means that only those with tips from the tourist industry can possibly afford them... There is basic food there. My rural friends have fruit from their trees, fresh fish and shrimp, garden veggies direct from the farm.... some true blessings that they don't take for granted. It had been a long time since they experienced abundance, and yet they worship with joy and share generously with me.Anyone saying our shelves are bare or worried about the lack of TP can rest assured that before long Canada will be back to our usual abundance of everything... So many have less than us.Be thankful.

My prayer is that we come together globally, that we reach out and help one another. Just like the ice storm of '98 brought people together, that developed community, that brought families closer together, that had people help out in whatever way they could - now is a great time to show people that we care. Let's think about how we can make a difference. Let's come together not only as a church but as a community, as a city, as a country and show the love of Jesus! It may bring one person to the Lord -a chance to know Jesus - and wouldn't that be a wonderful thing!

Pine Grove in Action

I am receiving calls from more & more people who every day are choosing to self-isolate.  Everyone in the church will be receiving an information package via Canada Post.  Unfortunately it will not arrive in your mailbox until next week.

There will be a brief video posted on the church website each and every Sunday Morning during this period of shutdown.

An interactive blog is being created on our website where we can all share happy stories or encouragement with each other.  We must encourage each other and keep our spirits high. It should be up soon.

The Board is meeting later this week to brainstorm opportunities to extend the love of Jesus to Pine Grove and its many communities represented at the church.  If you have an idea, email it to Pastor Dan.

If you are looking for a way to give your weekly offering there are three options.  1)  Send a cheque through Canada Post.  2) An online option had been previously scheduled to launch this week -- that's timely.  You will see a button on the HOME page (top right) called GIVE.  This is an app called tithe-ly. It is secure and can be installed as an app on your phone as well.  There is more than one Pine Grove Church so be sure to verify the address is "Seeley's Bay".  3) Set your offering aside and bring it when public worship services resume.

Taking Precautions

There will be no lunch tomorrow after church. We have a team of health care professionals evaluating the situation. Until they have given us their assessment and recommendations it is otherwise business as usual. Please wash your hands when you arrive at the church (either soap and warm water or sanitizer). If you prefer not to shake hands, wave and smile -- no one will be offended. It is important to take this seriously.

If for any reason you are self isolating, please let me know. I just want to know that you are safe. If you need anything from the outside world, I am happy to pick up and deliver.

In regard to this posting, please no opinions. We want to deal in facts with information that is current and accurate so that everyone can make informed decisions.

Ann and I love you all,

Pastor Dan
